About this episode

Paul and James argue that understanding your CRM is now a leadership skill, not an admin's job. Executives who treat the system of record as beneath them lose visibility into their own business.

Key ideas

  • 01The CRM is a leadership instrument, not an admin tool
  • 02Leaders who can't read the system manage from secondhand slides
  • 03Executives need fluency, not the ability to build workflows
  • 04Data discipline is set by tone from the top

Show notes

Paul: There's this idea that the CRM is beneath the executive team, something you delegate to an admin. I think that's one of the most expensive mistakes a leader can make.

James: Because the CRM is where your strategy meets reality. If you can't read it, you're managing the business from a slide deck someone made for you.

Paul: Exactly. You don't need to build workflows. But you should be able to open the pipeline and know whether what you're seeing is real, and ask the right questions when it isn't.

James: And the tone comes from the top. When the CEO cares about data quality, suddenly everyone does.
