About this episode

Connectors make AI-to-CRM feel seamless, but every integration has edges. Paul and Daniel map what Claude's HubSpot connector handles gracefully and where you still need custom tooling.

Key ideas

  • 01Connectors optimize for convenience, not throughput
  • 02Great for exploration and light work, not data pipelines
  • 03Bulk operations and tight write control expose the edges
  • 04Set expectations early so the limits don't frustrate the team

What we covered

A connector is a promise of seamlessness that reality eventually tests. Paul and Daniel give an honest field report on Claude's HubSpot connector: what it nails, where it gets awkward, and when you should reach for the API directly instead.

In this episode

  • What the connector genuinely makes easy
  • The read and write operations that get awkward at scale
  • Rate limits, permissions, and other real-world edges
  • When to graduate from connector to custom integration
  • Setting expectations with your team about the limits

Links & resources

Paul: Connectors are wonderful right up to the edge, and then you feel the edge hard. Claude's HubSpot connector is great for exploration and light work, but it's not a data pipeline.

Daniel: The honest framing is that a connector optimizes for convenience, not throughput. The moment you need bulk operations or tight control over writes, you feel the constraints.

Paul: And that's fine, as long as you know it going in. Use the connector for what it's for, exploration and small tasks, and reach for the API when you need real control.

Daniel: The failure mode is expecting a convenience layer to behave like custom infrastructure. Set that expectation with your team early and nobody gets frustrated.
